10 injured as Building collapses in Ladakh’s Kargil

 

Srinagar, Aug 3 : At least 10 people were injured after a three-storey building atop a hill’s slope collapsed in Kargil district of Ladakh in the wee hours on Saturday, officials said.

The incident took place in Kabbadi Nallah when a hill slope caved in when the earthmover was working in the area at around 4 am.

“ Ten people were injured in the incident which also included the driver of the earthmover, “ said Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon. “The rescue operation was launched immediately after receiving information about the building collapse.”

He said all the injured, which also included some tenants, were out of danger.

Three families- living close to the hill slope, were shifted to safer places.

The CEO Jaffar and Kargil Deputy Commissioner, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse supervised the rescue operation.

The authorities have also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

“We have taken the incident seriously and a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to probe the incident,” Suse told reporters in Kargil. “Those found guilty will be punished.”
