Srinagar: The Election Commission of India has prohibited the conduct and publication of exit polls in Jammu and Kashmir from 7:00 AM on November 6 (Thursday) to 6:30 PM on November 11 (Tuesday), as per an official notification published in The J&K Official Gazette dated October 27, 2025.
The order, issued under sub-section (1) of Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, bars all forms of media, print, electronic, or otherwise, from conducting or publicizing the results of any exit poll during the specified period. The Election Commission emphasized that the restriction applies to both General and Bye-elections.
The notification also reiterates that under Section 126(1)(b) of the R.P. Act, displaying any election-related matter, including the results of opinion polls or surveys, in any electronic media will be prohibited during the 48-hour period ending with the conclusion of polling.
Violators of these provisions may face imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both.
The notification was issued under the signatures of S.B. Joshi, Principal Secretary, and Anil Salgotra, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
