Operation Sindoor Demonstrated India’s High-Impact, Short-Duration Operational Capability: Defence Minister

New Delhi, December 18:Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the Indian Air Force as a technologically advanced, operationally agile, strategically confident, and future-ready force that is safeguarding national interests amid a constantly evolving global order.

Addressing the Air Force Commanders’ Conclave in New Delhi, the Defence Minister said, “During Operation Sindoor, the Armed Forces demonstrated India’s high-impact, short-duration operational capability.”

He praised the courage, speed, and precision with which the IAF destroyed terrorist camps during the operation and effectively handled Pakistan’s “irresponsible response” following the strikes. Highlighting public trust in the Armed Forces—especially in air defence capabilities—he said that the calm continuation of daily life by citizens reflected their confidence in India’s operational preparedness.

Emphasizing the importance of thoroughly understanding the adversary’s offensive and defensive capabilities to maintain a decisive edge, he urged commanders to draw lessons from Operation Sindoor and remain vigilant and prepared for future challenges.

Reflecting on the changing nature of warfare, Rajnath Singh said the Russia–Ukraine conflict, the Israel–Hamas war, the Balakot air strikes, and Operation Sindoor demonstrate that air power has emerged as a decisive force in modern times. He stressed that air power is not merely a tactical asset but a strategic instrument, with speed, surprise, and shock effect as its inherent characteristics.

He noted that air power enables leadership to convey a clear strategic message to adversaries that every step will be taken to safeguard national interests. Through speed, reach, and precision, air power has become an effective means of aligning military tools with national objectives.

While lauding the performance of India’s air defence systems and other equipment effectively used during Operation Sindoor, the Defence Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to further strengthen the country’s security apparatus.
