New Delhi, January 29 (MNN): India’s continued rise as a key player in global trade is reflected in its growing share of both global merchandise exports and global services exports. The Economic Survey 2025–26 was released on Thursday.
According to WTO global trade statistics, between 2005 and 2024, India’s share in global merchandise exports nearly doubled from 1 percent to 1.8 percent. Likewise, its share in global services exports more than doubled, increasing from 2 percent to 4.3 percent.
The Survey stated that India’s external sector performance demonstrates resilience to global shocks and highlights the structural strengths of a fast-growing economy that is becoming increasingly integrated into global markets.
Notably, India’s total exports reached USD 825.3 billion in FY25, recording a year-on-year growth of 6.1 percent, driven mainly by strong growth in services exports, which rose by 13.6 percent.
This export momentum continued into FY26, with Q1, Q2 and Q3 registering the highest-ever exports for the respective quarters, despite global uncertainties.
In FY25, the country’s merchandise exports stood at USD 437.7 billion, with non-petroleum exports touching a record high of USD 374.3 billion.
The Survey noted that electronics, pharmaceuticals, electrical machinery and automobiles have emerged as key drivers of export growth, reflecting rising competitiveness in high-value manufacturing segments.
Agricultural exports increased from USD 34.5 billion in FY20 to USD 51.1 billion in FY25, registering a CAGR of 8.2 percent.
