Delegation observes advanced aquaculture, hatchery technologies and marine biodiversity conservation Visit part of PIB Srinagar’s ongoing media tour of Kerala
Srinagar, February 05, 2026:As part of the ongoing media tour organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar, a media delegation from Srinagar today visited the ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Vizhinjam Regional Centre, to gain first-hand knowledge of marine aquaculture research and advanced aquaculture technologies.
During the visit, the media delegation interacted with Dr. B. Santhosh, Head of the ICAR–CMFRI Vizhinjam Regional Centre, who briefed journalists on the institute’s mandate, research priorities, and ongoing scientific initiatives in the field of marine fisheries and aquaculture. He highlighted CMFRI’s role in sustainable management of marine resources, development of mariculture, and technology dissemination aimed at enhancing fish production, employment opportunities, and food security.
The delegation was also guided by Senior Scientist Dr. Rati Bhuvaneswari through the Sagarika Marine Research Aquarium, which showcases marine biodiversity and research-based awareness initiatives. In addition, the delegation visited the Silver Pompano Brood Bank, developed for the production of quality seed.
The media team further toured the breeding and hatchery complexes for Giant Trevally and Silver Pompano, the bivalve hatchery, microalgal photobioreactor, and live-feed copepod unit. Detailed information was provided on scientific breeding practices, larval rearing, live-feed production, and advanced technologies supporting marine aquaculture and coastal livelihoods.
Through these interactions and facility visits, the media delegation gained comprehensive insight into CMFRI’s efforts to promote climate-resilient, sustainable, and technology-driven fisheries and mariculture.
It is noteworthy that this visit to ICAR–CMFRI, Vizhinjam, is part of a five-day media outreach programme organized by PIB Srinagar, aimed at familiarizing journalists from Jammu and Kashmir with key national research institutions, infrastructure projects, and developmental initiatives in Kerala. The delegation is being led by Shri Majid Pandit, Media and Communication Officer, PIB Srinagar, who is also the Conducting Officer of the programme.
