Jammu, March 11: Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday reached Jammu after assuming charge as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and said he would look into reports concerning the alleged targeting of people from Jammu and Kashmir in the hill state.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Gupta responded to a question about several videos circulating on social media that purportedly show individuals from Jammu and Kashmir being targeted in Himachal Pradesh.
“Yes, I have seen such reports. I will look into the matter,” Gupta said, adding that appropriate steps would be taken if any issue is found.
The newly appointed Governor said there has always been a close connection between Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and stressed the importance of maintaining harmony between people of the two regions.
“There is a close relationship between Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. People from both regions share historical and cultural ties,” he said.
Gupta also expressed gratitude to the country’s leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility of governing the hill state.
“I am thankful to the President, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister that only after seven months they entrusted me with the responsibility of a bigger state,” he said.
Gupta recently assumed office as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, marking a significant political responsibility after his earlier tenure in public life in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said he would work to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him and ensure that the concerns of people are addressed. [KNT]
