Jammu, Feb 4: National Conference leader and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq on Wednesday said the time had come for the Centre to honour its commitment of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, reacting to reports of the Union Home Minister’s visit to the Union Territory.
Tanvir Sadiq said the visit of the Home Minister was being closely watched by the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have long been awaiting the fulfilment of promises made at the national level. He expressed hope that the visit would prove meaningful and beneficial for the region.
“I appeal to the Home Minister to fulfil the promise of restoration of statehood that has been made repeatedly to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Sadiq said, adding that statehood was not merely a political demand but a matter of dignity and democratic rights.
The Zadibal MLA told reporters that the people had shown patience and resilience over the years and now expected concrete action rather than assurances. He maintained that restoration of statehood would help address political alienation and strengthen democratic institutions in the region.
Sadiq said the Centre must seize the moment and translate its assurances into action, stressing that delaying the process further would only deepen public disappointment. [KNT]
