Srinagar, Dec 26: The Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu and Kashmir on Friday arrested an employee of the Rural Development Department while accepting a bribe at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Anantnag district of south Kashmir.
Officials said the accused has been identified as Manzoor Ahangar, son of Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Srandoo village in Achabal, Anantnag. He was working as a helper with the Rural Development Department.
An ACB official told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a complainant for performing official work. Acting on a complaint, a trap was laid following due verification.
The ACB team entered the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Anantnag and caught the accused red handed while accepting the bribe amount. He was immediately taken into custody and the tainted money was recovered from his possession.
The official said a case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain whether other officials were involved or if similar demands were made from others.[KNT]
