Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina arrives on state visit

New Delhi, June 21 : Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in the Indian capital on Friday evening on a two-day state visit, that will see her holding talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi with several agreements set to be inked.

The MEA spokesperson in a post on X said that the Bangladesh PM was warmly welcomed to India by Minister of State for External Affairs KV Singh.

“PM Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh arrives in New Delhi on a State Visit to India.

Warmly welcomed by MoS @KVSinghMPGonda at the airport.

“Bangladesh is a key partner and trusted neighbour of India. The visit will give a major boost to this celebrated bilateral partnership.”

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Mustafizur Rahman was also there to welcome Sheikh Hasina at the airport.

This is the first bilateral visit by any head of government to India after the BJP-led alliance formed government for the third consecutive time.

The two sides are set to hold discussions on a potential trade pact.

This visit is Sheikh Hasina’s second trip to the Indian capital in less than 15 days, as she was among the dignitaries invited to PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on June 9.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is to call on the Bangladesh PM later today at the Hotel Taj Palace.

Tomorrow morning a ceremonial reception will be accorded to the Bangladesh PM at Rashtrapati Bhawan, after which she will go to Rajghat for the wreath laying ceremony.

At 11.30 am, PM Modi and the Bangladesh PM will hold one-on-one talks followed by delegation level talks at Hyderabad House, followed by exchange of agreements and press statements.

Then they will attend a luncheon hosted by PM Modi in honour of the Bangladesh PM at Hyderabad House.

She will call on President Draupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in the evening, before departing for Dhaka.
