Srinagar, Jan 13: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan sustained injuries on Monday morning when his service rifle allegedly went off accidentally during a patrol in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
They said the incident took place at around 8.15 am when a BSF constable of 112 battalion deployed in road opening party (ROP) accidently fired from his Insas rifle at Old Town Baramulla.
The injured jawan identified as constable Manish Meghwal sustained neck injury and was immediately shifted to Government Medical College Baramulla where he is under treatment.
His condition is stated to be stable, officials said.
The incident took place on a day when Kashmir is on a high alert as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Ganderbal district to inaugurate strategic important Z-Morh or Sonamarg Tunnel.
