New Delhi, Sep 18 : In a major decision in the Modi-3.0, the Union Cabinet has accepted the recommendations on Ram Nath Kovind-Panel on ‘One-Nation, One-Election’ in India.
This was one of the key focus areas of the Modi government’s third tenure.
“Cabinet has accepted recommendations of high level committee on One nation one election,” Union minister for I&B, Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters after the Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narandra Modi.
One nation One election will be implemented in two phases. In first phase Lok Sabha and assembly elections will be held. In the second phase, local body elections will be held, the Minister said.
A high level committee headed by former President of India Ram Nath Kovind extensively consulted a broad spectrum of stakeholders including political parties and experts on One nation One election, Vaishnaw said.
