Srinagar, Aug 19 : Newly elected Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Tariq Hameed Kara on Monday said the party was open to alliance with the like-minded parties in the upcoming Assembly election in the Union Territory.
“We are open to alliance with all like-minded parties who have taken their flag up against the hegemony and dictatorial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to keep them out of power”, Kara told media persons in Srinagar.
Kara was appointed by the Congress High Commandas Jammu and Kashmir President in place of Vikar Rasool Wani soon after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the Assembly election dates in JK recently.
He said the All India Congress Committee has constituted a committee consisting of myself (Kara), senior congress leaders Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Tara Chand, Raman Bhalla and Vikar Rasool Wani to deliberate and to draw certain parameters to see where the Jammu and Kashmir people and Congress is safeguarded.
“We have a committee constituted by the All India Congress Committee which has to deliberate and then to see the parameters whether to have any alliance with the like-minded parties in the upcoming Assembly election-s in Jammu and Kashmir”, Kara said.
“We have a committee to decide on any alliance, but as far as the approach is concerned, to my knowledge National Conference has already approached our central leadership”, the senior congress leader said.
He said as far as the Congress Committee is concerned, after the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ taken out by the party leader Rahul Gandhi has changed the scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
Kara said the party team will channelize, synchronize and capitalize the feel good factor of Rahul Gandhi in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“This will help us to address the economic, constitutional and religious distress of the people of Jammu and Kashmir on priority basis”, the PCC President said.
In reply to a question, Kara said “that whatever the other parties say is their own point of opinion and their own reason, but as far as INC is concerned we are very sure if they (other parties) will continue to join the already existing INDI alliance to keep away the BJP from power, we will definitely get success”.
