DC Bandipora reviews Land Subsidence Issue at Hajin, Calls for Permanent Restoration Plan

BANDIPORA, DECEMBER 31: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, today chaired a review meeting to take stock of the ongoing restoration efforts related to the sinking and land subsidence issue in Hajin town, which has adversely impacted power supply, water supply, and both residential and commercial structures.
During the meeting, the Jal Shakti Department informed that temporary restoration measures have been in place for nearly one and a half years.
Emphasizing that stop-gap arrangements cannot continue indefinitely, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the prolonged reliance on temporary solutions and underscored the urgent need to identify a sustainable and long-term remedy.
Taking serious note of the gravity of the issue, the DC directed the constitution of a dedicated Assessment Committee to carry out a detailed technical evaluation of the affected area and recommend appropriate remedial measures at the earliest. She also instructed all concerned departments to conduct a joint site inspection to assess ground conditions, identify potential risks, and ensure coordinated and time-bound restoration efforts.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed concerned officers to proactively engage with residents of the Naninara Bridge area, including families already affected as well as those likely to be impacted, and ensure proper counselling, clear communication, and reassurance.
Reiterating the district administration’s commitment to public safety, the DC stressed the importance of close inter-departmental coordination and timely execution of restoration works, affirming that safeguarding lives, property, and essential services remains the top priority.
