Decisive Operation Against Terrorists Active in Dense Forests of Jammu Is Inevitable: Amit Shah

Jammu, February 6: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday chaired a crucial high-level security review meeting in Jammu and issued clear and firm instructions that infiltration of any kind from across the international border must be stopped at all costs, and decisive and aggressive operations against Pakistani terrorists hiding in the upper reaches of Jammu must be intensified. He said that cutting off the supply lines of anti-national elements should now be the top priority to completely eliminate the movement and activities of terrorists.

Immediately after returning from his visit to Hiranagar, the Home Minister chaired this important security meeting at Lok Bhawan in Jammu. The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, GOC White Knight Corps Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra, DGP Nalin Prabhat, IB Director Tapan Deka, BSF Director General Praveen Kumar, CRPF Director General G.P. Singh, along with senior officers from the Army, police, intelligence agencies and the civil administration.

Several encounters in Kathua, Udhampur and Kishtwar over the past two weeks have put security agencies on high alert, in which three Pakistani terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed were killed. These incidents have not only raised suspicions of the reactivation of terror networks but have also increased challenges for security agencies due to a rise in cross-border drone activities.

According to sources, during the meeting the Home Minister conducted a detailed review of counter-terrorism operations, border surveillance and measures to curb drone activities. He clearly instructed that security forces must prevent infiltration from across the border at any cost.

Stressing the need for immediate and aggressive operations against Pakistani terrorists hiding in the upper areas, Amit Shah said that terrorists must not be allowed any supply, communication or logistical support under any circumstances. He directed that operations against terror networks, hybrid activities and cross-border launch pads be made “fast-paced and result-oriented.”

The Home Minister praised the security forces, saying that operations carried out over the past year—especially those targeting terrorist infrastructure—have broken the backbone of terrorist organizations. He said the professional competence and courageous strategy of the forces have played a key role in stabilizing the overall law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior military officers present at the meeting briefed the Home Minister on recent intelligence inputs, terrorist group activities, cross-border movement, and emerging trends in the smuggling of weapons and narcotics through drones.

The Home Minister emphasized that the central government is providing all possible resources to the security forces to eliminate terrorism. He asserted that “Jammu and Kashmir will be completely free of terrorism.” He reiterated that advanced technology is being rapidly deployed along the borders and in sensitive mountainous areas, and that modern equipment, advanced surveillance systems and high-tech command-and-control systems are being provided to enhance the operational reach of the forces.

After the meeting, the Home Minister met the families of martyrs and handed over appointment letters to their next of kin. He said empowering the families of martyrs is a top priority of the government and honoring their sacrifices is the nation’s duty.

This is the second comprehensive security review conducted by the Home Minister this month. Earlier, on January 8, during an important meeting in Delhi, he had directed that terrorist infrastructure, networks and financial support systems be dismantled in “mission mode.” In mid-January, the Union Home Secretary had also reviewed the security situation in Jammu.

On Saturday morning at 10:30 am, the Home Minister will also review developmental projects in Jammu and Kashmir at Lok Bhawan. The meeting will be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and other senior officials. Progress on infrastructure, welfare schemes, new strategies and development targets will be reviewed.

The Home Minister will depart for New Delhi tomorrow afternoon.
