Dhaka, Sep 25 : Bangladesh’s former industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun was on Wednesday arrested in Dhaka in a case involving attacks and killings of students and the public in Narsingdi’s Madhabdi area on August 4 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, media reports said.
Assistant Superintendent of Police ANM Imran Khan, assistant director of Rapid Action Battalion’s Legal and Media Wing, confirmed the information early on Wednesday, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun was elected as a member of parliament in 1986 from Narsingdi-4 as a candidate from the Awami League. He was re-elected in the ninth and 10th general elections in 2008 and 2014, respectively.
In the ninth parliament, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Defence, and later chaired the Standing Committees on Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the Ministry of Commerce, media reports said.
After winning in the 11th parliamentary election, Nurul was appointed as the minister for industries.
