New Delhi, January 29 (MNN): India’s steady rise as a key player in global trade is evident from its increasing share in both global merchandise exports and global trade in services. The Economic Survey 2025–26 was released on Thursday. According to WTO global trade statistics, between 2005 and 2024, India’s share in global merchandise exports nearly doubled, rising from 1 percent to 1.8 percent. Similarly, its share in global services exports more than doubled, increasing from 2 percent to 4.3 percent.
The Survey noted that India’s external performance demonstrates resilience against global shocks and highlights the structural features of a fast-growing economy that is becoming more deeply integrated into global markets.
Notably, India’s total exports reached USD 825.3 billion in FY25, registering a year-on-year growth of 6.1 percent, driven primarily by strong growth in services exports, which rose by 13.6 percent.
This export momentum continued into FY26, with Q1, Q2, and Q3 recording the highest-ever exports for the respective quarters, despite global uncertainties.
In FY25, the country’s merchandise exports stood at USD 437.7 billion, with non-petroleum exports reaching a historic high of USD 374.3 billion.
The Survey stated that electronics, pharmaceuticals, electrical machinery, and automobiles have emerged as key drivers of export growth, reflecting increasing competitiveness in high-value manufacturing segments.
Agricultural exports rose from USD 34.5 billion in FY20 to USD 51.1 billion in FY25, registering a CAGR of 8.2 percent.
