India needs to watch carefully emerging situation in Bangladesh: Farooq

Srinagar, Aug 6: National Conference President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said on Tuesday that India needs to watch carefully the emerging situation in neighbouring Bangladesh.

“Now the eastern front has opened. We should be extremely careful, and we should watch the situation with great care. I hope it will be resolved. I hope they are going to be able to get over this crisis,” Farooq told media persons in Srinagar on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar chaired an all-party meeting in New Delhi to discuss the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government and the Army’s takeover in Bangladesh amid violent protests.

The former Member of Parliament Abdullah said that for many years there has been unrest in Bangladesh, and one of the major factors for it has been unemployment and the economic condition.

“Unemployment has been one of the major factors, and secondly, the economic condition of the country is very bad. Putting all these things together really led to a situation where the government had to fall. I think all the dictators must remember they will face the same thing as Bangladesh faced,” the NC president said.
