New Delhi: the Ministry of External Affairs said that India has consistently advocated for de-escalation, emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy are essential to end the ongoing conflict at the earliest.
The government also highlighted the broader humanitarian and economic impact of the conflict, noting that it has caused immense suffering and disrupted global energy supplies and trade networks.
Reiterating its long-standing position, India stressed that a peaceful resolution through diplomatic means is the only viable way forward in the region.
Underscoring the strategic importance of maritime routes, the Ministry stated that it expects “unhindered, free navigation and the global flow of commerce” through the Strait of Hormuz. The narrow waterway is a critical artery for global oil shipments, and recent disruptions have led to volatility in energy markets worldwide.
The statement came after the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire aimed at halting escalating hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a pause in the “bombing and attack” campaign against Iran and declared a two-week bilateral ceasefire, stating that Iran’s 10-point proposal is workable. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the proposal could serve as a basis for negotiations toward a permanent deal, while reiterating that the United States had achieved most of its military objectives.
