Jaipur, January 15 (MNN): Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday emphasized that the Indian Army has undergone a “clear shift in thinking” and is not only responding to present-day challenges but is also deliberately preparing for the wars of the future.Addressing a press conference after the 78th Army Day Parade, the Army Chief said that to meet emerging requirements, the Army has created new structures that are being raised, equipped, and trained to operate effectively in an evolving and complex operational environment.
As part of this transformation, General Dwivedi said formations such as the Bhairav Battalion, Ashni Platoon, Shaktiban Regiment, and Divyastra Batteries have been raised. He noted that Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) lies at the core of this journey, which was prominently showcased during the parade through the display of ‘Made in India’ equipment.
Stressing the importance of weapon systems and equipment designed and manufactured in India, the Chief of the Army Staff said indigenous production has become a strategic necessity. “It provides us operational flexibility, long-term sustainability, and greater confidence in our preparedness,” he said.
The Army Chief added that the Indian Army is also focusing on dual-use resources—capabilities that can serve both military and civilian purposes. Infrastructure, technology, and innovations developed for national security should also contribute to national development.
General Dwivedi said the Indian Army is steadily transforming into a future-ready force, with empowered soldiers, modern support systems, and the ability to operate effectively across multiple domains. Placing the soldier firmly at the center of operations, technology is being leveraged to enhance decision-making and situational awareness.
