J&K faces 69 pc rainfall deficit in November

 

Srinagar, Nov 30 : Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh union territories received a rainfall deficit of 69 percent this November.

The Meteorological Department said with a normal value of 35.3 mm only 10.9 mm of rainfall was observed in the subdivision during the month of November.

According to the data prepared by the local MeT, the Kathua district in the Jammu region with 100% departure from normal observed 0.0 mms of rainfall against a normal of 28.0 mms, following Poonch district with a 98 pc rainfall deficit.

Budgam district received only 14.9 mms of rainfall against the normal value of 30.1 mms with 90 pc deficiency.

Samba stood out as an exception, receiving 48 pc more rainfall than normal, which received 12.5 mm of rainfall against the normal value of 8.1 mm following the Kupwara district with -3% departure from normal, which received 48.1 mm of rainfall against the normal of 49.8 mm during the month.

Srinagar and Jammu districts observed 74% and 78% respectively, less rainfall than normal during the month.

Kashmir had experienced significantly high temperatures this year and witnessed major deficiency in rainfall.
