Kupwara, Jan 28: Security forces on Wednesday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a Cordon and Search Operation conducted in the Karnah area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.
According to official sources, the operation was carried out by Jammu and Kashmir Police Karnah in coordination with the Indian Army in the forest area of Rati Tari in Sector Taad Karnah.
During the search, the joint team recovered four Chinese pistols, seven pistol magazines, three AK magazines, 308 rounds of AK 47 ammunition, and one sniper sight.
The recovery was made during a sustained search operation in the forest belt, which is considered a sensitive area due to its proximity to the Line of Control. Officials said the seized arms and ammunition are suspected to have been concealed for use in militant activities.
Police said the recovery has been formally claimed in connection with the operation, and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and intended use of the weapons.
Searches in the surrounding areas were also intensified to rule out the presence of any remaining arms or suspects.
Security forces have maintained heightened vigilance in the Karnah sector in recent weeks as part of ongoing efforts to prevent infiltration and dismantle militant networks operating in the border areas of Kupwara district. [KNT]
