Born in Srinagar, Khan completed his post-graduation from Kashmir University in 1982. The maverick artist started his acting career way back in 1974 as a child artist on TV.

“I have dedicated my life to the preservation and promotion of performing arts in general and theatre in particular. Over the past more than four decades, I have consistently spearheaded initiatives engaging the younger generation in nation-building activities while ensuring the protection of indigenous nuances,” Khan said.

His consistent effort of more than four decades towards performing arts has been acknowledged by the government and other organisations.

He was also honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ presented by J&K Lt Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, in October 2022.

Khan’s immense contribution in the field of theatre and filmmaking has earned him numerous accolades from prestigious institutions.

He is also the first filmmaker from the valley to produce and direct documentaries for UGC’s countrywide classroom through AVRC of Kashmir University.

Khan is also the chairman of ‘ACT—For A Better Tomorrow’ (previously called Actors’ Creative Theatre’), an organisation active in the field of art, culture, film, and literature since 1976. ACT was established to give local theatre artistes a platform and help them financially.

Khan has also been a driving force behind cinema in the region, founding the Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF) in 2017. The festival has successfully hosted four editions.
