Light to moderate rain, snow lash several parts of Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 11: Widespread light to moderate rain and snowfall lashed Kashmir over the past 24 hours, even as Gulmarg emerged as the coldest place in the union Territory, recording a minimum temperature of minus 5.5°C, the Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.
The ski resort of Gulmarg also recorded the highest rainfall in the Kashmir division at 22.2 mm during the 24 hours ending this morning. Srinagar recorded 1.2 mm of rain, while the hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir received 8.8 mm.
Among other stations, Qazigund recorded 2.2 mm, Kokernag 2.0 mm and Konibal 1.0 mm of rainfall.
Fresh snowfall was reported from Pahalgam and Gulmarg during the past 24 hours, with Gulmarg receiving a significant 23 cm of snow, while Pahalgam recorded 4.5 cm, according to the Meteorological Department.
Meanwhile, minimum night temperatures across the Kashmir division remained 1 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal at many places. In contrast, the Jammu division recorded temperatures near normal, staying within 0 to 1 degree of the seasonal average.
The lowest minimum temperature in the Kashmir division was recorded at Gulmarg at minus 5.5°C, which was 0.8 degrees above normal. In Jammu division, Bhaderwah was the coldest place, registering a low of 0.4°C.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.8°C, which was 2.6 degrees above normal. Qazigund settled at 2.7°C, 3.7 degrees above the seasonal average, while Kokernag recorded 1.7°C, around 3 degrees above normal.
Pahalgam registered a low of minus 1.2°C, which was 3.1 degrees above normal for this time of the year.
The MeT office has predicted mainly dry weather over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. For the subsequent two days, the department has predicted mainly dry conditions with the possibility of isolated very light rain or snowfall at a few places.
