MP Mehdi should have not hit the roads on reservation issue: Congress

Srinagar, Dec 24 : All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and J&K Congress Legislative Party Leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Tuesday said that National Conference Member Parliament Ruhullah Mehdi, should have not hit the roads over the reservation issue.

Mir said that the MP from the ruling party could have taken up the issue with the chief minister .

“He is a responsible member of the Parliament from the ruling party. And if he genuinely believes these young people have a valid issue, then the Chief Minister is at his disposal, the entire cabinet is at his disposal. So instead of taking to the streets and just showing the cameras, he should discuss it within the party and within the government,” Mir said while addressing a press conference in Srinagar.

The Congress leader said that the best solution to the reservation issued is caste census.

“The best solution, as given by my leader Rahul Gandhi, is to conduct a caste census in the country, which will cure all these diseases,” he said.

Mir also demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah resign and apologize for “disrespecting” Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

He termed the “remarks” of Shah about the architect of Indian Constitution as “very unfortunate and highly condemnable” saying that Congress Party shall continue to demand resignation of Amit Shah for his “disparaging and disrespectful remarks against one of the tallest leaders of India.”

AICC General Secretary urged the Prime Minister to seek resignation of Amit Shah for his objectionable utterances against the architect of Indian Constitution, as the remarks of Shah are extremely distasteful and disgrace one of the tallest leaders of our independence movement.

“Ambedkar Ji’s contribution to building our Nations’ ethos in the form of our Constitution as well as safeguarding the rights of members of Dalit community and other marginalized groups are well documented and require no replication. Any attempt to disrespect such an esteemed National figure cannot and shall not go unchecked without any consequences,” Mir added.
