Multi-tier security in place for Republic Day function in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 21: A multi-tier security is in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the Republic Day function in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital.

This will be the first Republic Day celebration following the formation of an elected government since the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in 2019.

In Kashmir, the main Republic Day function will be held at Bakshi stadium in Srinagar where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will preside and take the salute during the parade.

The security has been heightened in Kashmir ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range V K Birdi on Tuesday said that all arrangements have been finalised and a multi-tier security is in place for the smooth conduct of the Republic Day function in Srinagar.

“These security arrangements are aimed at facilitating the people who would come to the Stadium to see the Republic Day function and enjoy the event peacefully,” Birdi told reporters outside the Bakshi stadium here.

Meanwhile, security forces have strengthened their deployment, and several checkpoints have been established to keep an eye on the situation.

The security forces were seen randomly searching vehicles at many routes of Srinagar and other parts of the valley.

In other district headquarters, J&K Cabinet Ministers and District Development Council (DDC) Chairpersons will officiate and take the salute during the local celebrations.
