NC won’t enter into any pre-poll alliance in Assembly election in JK: Farooq

Srinagar, Aug 7 : National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said the party wouldn’t enter into any pre- poll alliance in the upcoming J&K Assembly election.

The INDIA bloc parties Congress and NC contested five Lok Sabha seats of J&K in alliance in the recently held Lok Sabha polls.

“National Conference will fight assembly elections on its own, and will not have any alliance in the forthcoming Assembly election”, Farooq told media persons in Srinagar.

Asked when the dates for holding Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir will be finalised, the NC President said “it is evident that the Election Commission of India (ECI) delegation is coming here. They will hold discussions with everyone, after which they will talk to the Government of India and decide dates”.

He said ‘they (ECI) cannot finalise dates on their own. Today everything lies in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah’.

Regarding Bangladesh, Farooq said that the ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh was a pro-Indian and the people of that country are not.

He said India should prepare to deal with the arising situation. “No neighbouring country is our friend..we are alone… either it is Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka. It is very unfortunate that the big brother made their young brother angry”.

“There is a dire need to revive the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and India must play the role of a big brother”, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said and added “if we sit together and sort out all issues so that these neighbouring countries could become our friends”.
