Srinagar, Sep 22: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance will form the next government and there is no chance of hung Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir.
Omar said this while replying to a question that some leaders were claiming that this Assembly election would result in a divided verdict.
Either these people have any such technology they could directly see into the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)”, the NC Vice President told media persons during a Shikara rally taken out in the iconic Dal Lake in Srinagar on Sunday.
He said, “We don’t know what is polled in the machines”.
He said what he was hearing from the people, there is no room for the hung assembly and National Conference and Congress have fought these elections together to form a government.
Omar said the alliance was also to provide an option for the people that such things should not happen.
He said, “Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would wish to emerge a hung assembly after elections so that they could get an excuse to prolong the Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir. But the people of Jammu and Kashmir will not allow such a situation.”
Asked if NC will form an alliance with BJP, Omar said, “Such a need will not arise. Let us wait till October 8 and will talk after that”.
Asked how confident the NC and Congress alliance is, Omar said “We are not doing pre-poll surveys. We trust in people and hope the trust would be changed into the votes they will poll in favour of us so that after October 8 the alliance could form the next government”.
Asked about what kind of challenge he is facing during these elections, Omar said “there is a challenge on every seat. He said there are so many parties, smaller or big or central or independents who are targeting the National Conference only…they are somewhere afraid of us”.
In reply to a question Omar said that “BJP will not win a seat from Kashmir valley. He said the BJP’s narrative against the Muslims is already known to everyone. The BJP could not find any capable candidate who could have been made a minister in the central government, in the 16 percent Muslims of the country”.
Asked that Prime Minister during his recent public rally in Srinagar attacked three families of National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and Congress, Omar said “that BJP has nothing else to showcase before the people of Jammu and Kashmir and added what else they could sell here and what Jammu and Kashmir was provided with during the past five years”.
He said when Jammu and Kashmir did not achieve anything the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister and others were forced to talk about these three families. If they could have their own anything they would not have spoken such things.
Asked that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is arriving here for campaign, Omar said that “it is a good thing he is coming to compete with the so many central leaders of BJP who are visiting here. I wish Rahul should visit the places where Congress is fighting against the BJP to further strengthen his party cadre”.
The NC leader said that the polling percentage during the first phase of Assembly elections was not as heavy as we were expecting. There were so many areas where the voting percentage was less than 2014 elections.
He said the present government must think on this when they are claiming everything is normal today and there was no poll boycott and no fear among the people. He said despite these claims there were so many areas where turnout percentage was very less in comparison to 2014 elections.
Omar thanked the people for coming out and exercising their vote and said that as per the reports the National Conference-Congress performance remains good during the first phase of the elections.
He said the people overwhelmingly participated in the campaign for the second phase and hoped that they would come out on the polling day with the same passion to bring decisive change in the results.
