Srinagar, Jan 24: Peoples Democratic Party on Friday hit out at J&K government for allegedly making it mandatory for school children in Poonch district of Jammu to attend a recent Tiranga rally organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The PDP said that using education as a “propaganda tool” by “forcing” students to attend ideological events is “unacceptable”.
Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was reacting to purported order issued by the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Poonch to school heads to send 40 to 50 students along with two teachers” in the Tiranga Rally that was held by ABVP on Thursday .
“J&Ks Education Department under the NC government has made it mandatory for both private & public school children across Poonch to attend a rally organised by ABVP the RSS affiliated student wing that normalises anti- Muslim bigotry. Using education as a propaganda tool by forcing students to attend ideological events is unacceptable,” she said on X, while sharing the order.
PDP’s legislative party leader Waheed Para hit out at chief minister Omar Abdullah saying he used to condemn such orders before the elections.
“J&K government’s order with education department’s endorsement of an ABVP rally, forcing students to participate, was condemned by Omar Abdullah before elections. Yet now, this blatant transformation under the government stands as its only so-called “achievement” in the last 100 days,” Parra said on X.
He alleged that Abdullah led National Conference government has abandoned every promise it made during elections.
“Restoration of Article 370, release of political prisoners, rationalisation of reservation, free electricity, free ration, Youth Employment Act, revocation of PSA and AFSPA. U-turns, and betrayal continues,” the PDP leader added.
