Jammu, Dec 14: Intensifying its efforts to curb militancy and to have a heavy hand on the Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and to check the support base of anti-national elements in Doda district and adjoining areas, police have filed chargesheets against seven accused persons in two separate cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The chargesheets were presented on Saturday before the NIA Court in Doda for judicial determination.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Sandeep Mehta, said that all these accused persons have covertly or overtly supported the militant groups in Doda district by providing them food and other logistical things.
The first case was registered at Gandoh Police Station and involved three accused, namely Safder Ali, Mubashar Hussain, and Sajad Ahmad, all residents of Tanta, Tehsil Kahara, District Doda. They have been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act and several provisions of the UAPA.
The case has been investigated by SP(PC), Doda.
In the second case, he said that an FIR was registered at Police Station Bhaderwah in which four accused persons were chargesheeted.
The accused included residents of the Doda district, with the main accused being Mohd Rafi of Trown and one individual, namely Mohd Amin Bhat, alias Khubaib, of Phagsoo and currently residing in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK)/Pakistan.
The charges were framed under relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act.
The police reiterated their commitment to address both active militancy and the networks of support that sustain such activities, he said.
“The action forms part of a broader strategy to dismantle the logistical and financial systems enabling terrorism in the region,” said the SSP, and reaffirmed the resolve of Jammu and Kashmir Police to maintain peace and security by taking decisive action against those involved in unlawful activities and ensuring that perpetrators face justice.
Police are keeping a keen eye on the activities of all those who are either garnering support for the anti-national elements or providing them logistic support for sustaining themselves in this hilly district, and further efforts are underway to identify and book other individuals linked to militancy, he added.
