Red Fort Blast Case: Five Accused Remanded to Jail, Custody of Two Others Extended

New Delhi, Jan 17: A Delhi court on Friday remanded five accused, including three doctors and a cleric, to judicial custody till February 13 in connection with the Red Fort blast case.

Special Judge Prashant Sharma accepted the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) request for judicial custody of Dr Adeel Rather, Dr Shaheen Saeed, Dr Muzammil Ganaie, Maulvi Irfan Ahmad Wagay and Jasir Bilal Wani, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner.

According to the NIA, Jasir Bilal Wani was arrested from Srinagar on November 17 last year for allegedly providing technical assistance to terrorist elements by modifying drones and attempting to assemble rockets ahead of the November 10 suicide blast near the Red Fort, which claimed 15 lives.

The court also extended the judicial custody of two other accused — Yasir Ahmed Dar and Naseer Bilal Malla — in the same case.

The investigating agency informed the court that Dar, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, was a close associate of Umar-un-Nabi, the suicide bomber who rammed an explosive-laden vehicle that detonated outside the Red Fort on November 10.

The NIA further alleged that Naseer Bilal Malla knowingly sheltered Umar-un-Nabi, provided him logistical support and later destroyed evidence linked to the terror attack.

So far, nine accused have been arrested by the NIA in connection with the case. (KNC)
