Suspect arrested in south Kashmir with arms & ammunition

 

Srinagar, Jan 9 : Security forces have arrested a suspected individual in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district along with arms and ammunition, Army said.

They said the arrest was made on Wednesday based on a specific intelligence input following which a joint cordon and search operation was launched along with J&K police at Thokarpura Mohallah, Qaimoh, Kulgam.

Army’s Srinagar based Chinar Corps, who didn’t disclose the identity of the suspect, said that an AK Rifle with four magazines and 120 rounds, two hand grenades & other war like stores was recovered from him.

“On 08 Jan 2025, based on specific intelligence input, a joint Cordon & Search Operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice at Thokarpura mohallah, Qaimoh, Kulgam. During search, one suspected individual has been apprehended alongwith recovery of 01xAK Rifle, 04xAK Magazines, 120xAK Rounds, 02xHand Grenades & other war like stores,” Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

It said further Investigation by police is in progress.

Last month, Kulgam district witnessed an encounter in which a top Hizbul Mujahideen commander, who was the longest-surviving militant in the Kashmir Valley, was killed along with his four associates. Two Army soldiers were also injured in the encounter.
