CJI lauds academic excellence, Rijiju highlights NEP 2020 implementation and youth empowerment

The Chief Justice of India, Justice Shri Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, and Union Minister for Minority and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, today attended the first Mega Alumni Meet 2025 at the University of Kashmir. The event was held at the University’s Convocation Complex and witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, former students, faculty members, and officers from the civil and police administration.

Addressing the gathering, Justice Shri Gavai lauded the University for nurturing professionals who have made significant contributions across diverse sectors. He praised the institution’s commitment to academic and research excellence and expressed confidence in its continued role in shaping India’s future. He also acknowledged the hospitality and coordination by the UT administration.

Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju, while speaking at the occasion, praised the University for emerging as a centre of academic distinction. “The University of Kashmir has set a benchmark for quality education and research in the region. Its A++ NAAC grade is a testimony to its academic strength and institutional commitment,” he said.

He commended the University for its proactive implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, saying, “This University is among the few institutions in the country that have adopted NEP 2020 with seriousness and vision. It is playing a key role in transforming higher education in the region through a multidisciplinary, inclusive, and technology-enabled approach.”

Highlighting the University’s influence among youth, Shri Rijiju said, “The University of Kashmir holds the power to inspire a new narrative for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. Our youth are full of potential and deserve every opportunity to grow and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.”

He further added, “The Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Union Government will leave no stone unturned in supporting the aspirations of the students and youth in the Union Territory. We are committed to ensuring that every student in J&K has access to quality education, modern infrastructure, and opportunities to flourish.”

Lieutenant Governor, J&K Shri Manoj Sinha, in his address, emphasized the role of alumni in shaping a progressive and peaceful Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Minister, J&K, Shri Omar Abdullah commended the University for producing notable professionals across fields such as politics, law, administration, and healthcare.

Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir Prof. Nilofer Khan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries and alumni for their participation. She reiterated the University’s commitment to academic innovation and societal contribution.

Earlier, distinguished alumni including Dr. Karan Singh, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shri Mian Altaf, and former DGP Shri Kuldeep Khuda were felicitated. The event began with the University Taraana and a special documentary showcasing the institution’s history and achievements.
