Mehbooba Mufti urges Centre to announce relief package as floods, landslides ravage J&K

Srinagar, Aug 30  Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti today urged the central government to announce an immediate financial relief package for people affected by recent floods, cloudbursts and landslides in the union Territory.
In a post on X, Mehbooba said the devastation caused by natural calamities has left many families homeless, destroyed infrastructure and claimed precious lives, with Jammu bearing the brunt of the destruction.
“Government of India ( GOI) must urgently announce a financial relief package similar to the one after 2014 floods. This time special attention must be given to Jammu which has suffered the most,” she said.
The PDP chief stressed a coordinated effort between Centre and the J&K government was essential to ensure that the affected people are not left to fend for themselves in this time of crisis.
A series of cloudburst triggered in Jammu and Kashmir over the past two weeks have left a trail of devastation, claiming more than 100 lives and leaving dozens missing. Authorities have described the back-to-back tragedies as some of the worst natural calamities in recent years.
The recent floods also wreaked havoc across Jammu, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Torrential rains inundated large parts of Jammu region, sweeping away houses, roads and bridges.
