Two Drug Peddlers Arrested in Khanyar, Heroin-Like Substance Seized
Srinagar, Oct 5 : Police in Srinagar arrested two alleged drug peddlers during a midnight naka checking operation at Munawarabad and recovered heroin-like substance from their possession.
  According to police, the operation was carried out after receiving credible information about possible drug movement in the area. A police team from Police Station Khanyar set up a checkpoint and intercepted two individuals moving suspiciously. Upon search, around 12.84 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession.
The arrested persons have been identified as Umer Sheikh, a resident of Dalgate Buchwara, and Aqib Hyder Khan, originally from Dehradun and presently residing at Dalgate.
Police said a formal case under FIR number 46/2025 has been registered at Police Station Khanyar under sections 8, 21, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation has been taken up to trace the source and possible links of the arrested duo with any wider narcotics network operating in the city.
Officials added that Srinagar Police has intensified its crackdown against drug peddling and illegal narcotics trade in the city and appealed to locals to assist in the campaign by sharing information related to drug-related activities.[KNT]
