New Delhi, December 20: Industry projections indicate that India’s artificial intelligence (AI) talent pool is expected to more than double by 2027, with a projected compound annual growth rate of around 15 per cent.
This expansion in AI skills is reflected in India’s participation in global developer activity. According to worldwide data on GitHub AI projects, India ranked as the second-largest contributor in 2024, accounting for 19.9 per cent of all AI initiatives.
Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “This highlights the strength of India’s AI developer community and reaffirms the government’s commitment to large-scale AI training, research and innovation through the India AI Mission.”
India’s AI strategy is rooted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making technology accessible to all. The aim is to address India-specific challenges while creating employment opportunities in the AI sector.
AI-related job opportunities span multiple industries, including IT, manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare and governance. As AI adoption increases across these sectors, the demand for skilled professionals is also rising.
The Indian government recognises this trend and has aligned its AI initiatives accordingly, which is also reflected in global assessments of India’s AI workforce.
