Washington, May 16 : A Jewish American staffer resigned from her position at the Interior Department, citing Biden’s continued support of Israel’s war in Gaza, Politico reported on Wednesday.

Lily Greenberg Call resigned from her position as special assistant to the chief of staff in the Interior Department, citing her Jewish heritage and connection to Israel in her resignation letter, according to the report.

“I can no longer, in good conscience, continue to represent this administration amidst President Biden’s disastrous, continued support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza,” Greenberg Call is cited as saying in her resignation letter.

The former staffer is the first known Jewish appointee to publicly resign over Biden’s support of Israel and the sixth person to resign citing concerns over the administration’s Israel policy, the report added.

Greenberg Call is also quoted in the report as saying in her resignation that Biden “has the power to call for a lasting ceasefire, to stop sending weapons to Israel, and to condition aid,” but instead enabled and legitimised Israel’s actions.

The letter also references Nakba Day, which is a term used to mark the anniversary of the flight and expulsion of nearly 700,000 Palestinians before and during the Arab-Israeli war of 1948 following Israel’s establishment, the report said.

The Biden administration told Congress on Tuesday that it was moving forward with more than $1 billion in new weapons deals for Israel—less than a week after the administration paused a shipment over Israel’s military operation in Rafah.

The new package will include the potential transfer of $700 million in tank ammunition, $500 million in tactical vehicles, and $60 million in mortar rounds.
