New Delhi, June 7 : The meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began Friday at the central hall of Parliament to discuss the government formation at the Centre.

During the meeting, BJP president JP Nadda was expected to propose a resolution in support of Narendra Modi’s leadership, with allies and MPs likely to endorse it.

All the newly-elected MPs of the NDA have already arrived at the Parliament, to elect Narendra Modi as their leader, paving the way for him to take oath as prime minister for a third term on Sunday.

Modi, along with NDA leaders including TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Bihar Chief Minister and JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar, is expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu later in the day to formally stake claim for government formation.

The NDA constituents unanimously passed a resolution electing Modi as their leader at a meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence on Wednesday.

In all, 21 NDA leaders signed the resolution, which appreciated Modi’s efforts in nation-building, welfare of the poor, and development, adding that they were all partners in that effort.

The NDA crossed the majority mark bagging 293 seats in the Lok Sabha polls. However, the BJP managed to secure only 240 seats, much lower than its 2019 tally.
