New PM will be elected on June 4: Omar

Srinagar, May 23 : National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will get the reply from the voters of the country on June 4 when a new Prime Minister will be elected.

Omar was reacting to Prime Minister Narenra Modi’s claim that he did not play Hindu-Muslim card during the campaign.

“Now..God willing, the BJP will get the reply from the voters of the country on June 4 when a new Prime Minister will be elected,” Omar told media persons on the last day of campaigning in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday.

The campaign ends for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat on Thursday and it goes to polls on May 25.

“BJP has been frustrated. The Prime Minister is saying that he has not played the Hindu-Muslim card. But when we see the other side and wherever the BJP speaks during the campaign they did nothing but target the Muslims only,” he said.

He said it has been a long campaign, and it should not have been so. The postponement of elections on the Anantnag-Rajouri seat wasn’t needed, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said.

“The ECI postponed the elections for Anantnag-Rajouri seat on the pretext of weather, but was just to provide an opportunity to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Kashmir,” Omar alleged.

“We now urge voters of Anantnag, Rajouri, Poonch, Kulgam, Shopian and Wachi to turn out in huge numbers and participate in the electoral process on May 25 to provide an opportunity to Mian Altaf to reach the Parliament to serve the people,” he added.
