Omar asks government where will you get forces for simultaneous polls

Srinagar, Mar 19: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday questioned the union government as to how it will conduct elections in the future simultaneously under the ‘one nation, one election’ plan if it couldn’t now hold parallel elections in Jammu and Kashmir due to security reasons.

Omar said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar made it clear that the current J&K administration put hurdles in the conduct of Assembly polls by saying they cannot make security arrangements and need more forces.

“ …when you talk about one nation, one election, and have to conduct the polls simultaneously in states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar, then where will you get the forces?” Omar told reporters in Srinagar.

The former Chief Minister said the Election Commission of India had an opportunity to conduct the Assembly polls in J&K, but the administration did not want it.

” They (administration) have become uncrowned kings. They have all the power which they do not want to leave. But thank God the Supreme Court has set a September 30 deadline for Assembly polls,” he added.

This is the second time in the last two days that Omar has hit out at the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha administration .

On Monday after kickstarting his party’s election campaign from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district Omar accused current government of Jammu and Kashmir of sabotaging the polls because they do not want to return power to people

When asked about the party candidates for Lok Sabha polls Omar said the party was in no hurry to announce names.
