New Delhi, January 19 (MNN):External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday urged Poland to demonstrate zero tolerance towards terrorism and refrain from supporting or enabling terrorist activities in India’s neighbourhood.
Speaking during talks with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in New Delhi, Jaishankar said that Poland should not “help fuel the infrastructure of terrorism” in the region. His remarks came in the context of the Polish Foreign Minister’s recent visit to Pakistan.
The External Affairs Minister said that India and Poland have traditionally shared warm and friendly relations, reflected in growing political engagement, economic cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024 elevated bilateral ties to the level of a Strategic Partnership.
Jaishankar said both sides would review the Action Plan 2024–28 to fully realise the potential of the strategic partnership, with a focus on trade and investment, defence and security cooperation, clean technologies, and digital innovation.
Highlighting economic ties, he noted that Poland is one of India’s largest trading partners in Central Europe, with bilateral trade reaching nearly USD 7 billion after growing by around 200 percent over the past decade. Indian investments in Poland have crossed USD 3 billion, generating significant employment.
He also spoke about strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties, recalling historical links such as the legacy of Dobry Maharaj and initiatives like the Jam Sahib Memorial Youth Exchange Programme. Jaishankar said Indology is gaining ground in Poland and yoga enjoys considerable popularity.
On regional and global issues, the External Affairs Minister said he had earlier shared India’s perspectives on the Ukraine conflict with Polish leadership in New York and Paris. He reiterated that “India is being selectively targeted on multiple fronts, not just tariffs.”
He added that Poland is well aware of the challenge of cross-border terrorism in the region and stressed that zero tolerance against terrorism should be a shared principle.
