New Delhi, January 15 (MNN): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar paid tribute to the Indian Army on the occasion of Army Day. In a post on social media platform X, he wrote, “On Army Day today, we salute the courage and resolve of our soldiers. The nation remains forever grateful to them and their families for their selfless service.”
India observes Army Day every year on January 15 to commemorate the historic moment when Lieutenant General K. M. Cariappa (later Field Marshal) took over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Francis Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief.
Extending heartfelt greetings to the Indian Army on Army Day, President Droupadi Murmu said in her message that Army Day reminds the nation of the courage, dedication, and supreme sacrifices of soldiers who steadfastly serve the country.
The President noted that the Indian Army remains the cornerstone of India’s national security and has upheld the highest traditions of professionalism. She praised the Army’s bravery and determination in guarding the borders, its role during natural disasters, and its outstanding success in Operation Sindoor.
President Murmu further said, “I am confident that the Indian Army will continue to play its role in nation-building by facilitating economic growth and the country’s inclusive development. I salute our soldiers and reaffirm the nation’s enduring gratitude to the Indian Army, wishing all ranks continued success, strength, and glory in the performance of their noble duty.”
