Need to Promote Sports in Rural Areas: Social Activist
Pulwama / Tanha Ayaz: Daily exercise and sports keep a person fit and healthy. Yoga can play an important role in maintaining a normal heart rate. These views were expressed by a Unani medical expert in Pulwama.
According to details, the Medical Officer of the AYUSH Unit at District Hospital Pulwama and renowned Unani doctor, Dr Altaf Hussain Shah, said that people who exercise daily or participate in sports remain mentally healthy, as sports provide adequate physical activity. He said that cases of diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and heart diseases are increasing day by day in the Kashmir Valley.
Dr Shah said that about 70 percent of people in the Kashmir Valley, including both men and women, are unaware of the importance of exercise. He added that people in the Valley generally do not pay attention to physical fitness. He emphasized that regular exercise can help reduce depression, diabetes, heart disease, and other ailments.
Responding to a question, Dr Altaf Hussain Shah said that people are more prone to various illnesses during the winter season; therefore, exercise should be continued at home even during winter. He urged women to take care of their health and advised them to exercise at home for at least 20 to 25 minutes daily.
On the occasion, well-known social activist from Pulwama district, Mohammad Altaf Butt Jadoora, also shared his views on the importance of sports. He said that along with education, sports are equally important. He added that there is considerable talent among the youth of remote and rural areas of Pulwama district in various sports.
He stressed the need to promote sports extensively in rural areas so that local youth can move forward and showcase their talent. Social activist Mohammad Altaf Butt appealed to the youth to actively participate in sports and stay away from the menace of drugs and other wrong activities.
