New Delhi, December 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visits to Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman underscore India’s integrated strategic approach toward the Middle East and Africa, particularly in light of disruptions to global trade routes.
India views the Middle East as a “critical corridor” connecting Africa, Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Indo-Pacific, and is actively diversifying partnerships in these key regions. The visit to Jordan focused on strengthening bilateral ties in renewable energy, water management, and digital transformation, along with a shared stand against terrorism.
Ethiopia, as India’s gateway to Africa and host of the African Union, was elevated to a strategic partnership, reinforcing India’s commitment to development cooperation and leadership in the Global South. Oman, a trusted partner in the Gulf, remains vital to India’s energy and maritime security through expanded defense cooperation and port access in the western Indian Ocean.
This multi-regional engagement reflects India’s strategy to diversify economic and strategic partnerships amid rising trade uncertainty and geopolitical shifts.
